Geology Explained in Terms of Global Flood Recovery

By Carla Estell October 2022

If the present earth is looked upon in terms of Global Flood Recovery, then the forethought of God will clearly be seen as He designed the earth for the post-flood civilizations. During the Flood the earth, along with all land living organisms, had been destroyed.  Earth’s very foundation had been pulverized into sand, clay, and mud.  Uprooted trees and dead carcasses floated about in giant islands of debris. Mega sharks and other sea creatures feasted on the carnage. Bactria and algae thrived near the surface while the deep waters were excessively saturated with minerals.  God had destroyed the world just as He said He would. Then it was time to remake it into a fitting habitation for man. God does not reveal His exact thoughts or actions. But, his active role in shaping the earth is revealed in verses such as these:

  • Psalm 95:3-5 For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In his hand are the deep places of the earth: the strength of the hills is his also. The sea is his, and he made it: and his hands formed the dry land.
  • Isaiah 40:12 Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, or marked off the heavens with the span of his hand? Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket, or weighed the mountains on a scale and the hills with a balance?
  • Amos 4:13 For, lo, he that formeth the mountains, and createth the wind, and declareth unto man what is his thought, that maketh the morning darkness, and treadeth upon the high places of the earth, The LORD, The God of hosts, is his name.
  • Isaiah 45:18 For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else.
  • Nahum 1:3 The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.

Through the study of geology, perhaps His hand can be traced.

During the Flood earth’s foundation had been ground smooth by the grit-filled circulating waters. The resulting boulder filled sediment lay like a blanket upon the remaining granite.  This was topped with rippled layers of sand. God used dissolved silica to cement the sand grains together into quartzite thus preserving the ripples for a memorial to the Global Flood, strengthening earth’s foundation, and preparing building material for man’s use.

This rippled quartzite from a quarry in Wisconsin can easily be found near the surface, however to see the rippled quartzite at the Grand Canyon, you have to get to the bottom by raft, mule or foot.

At the abandoned quarry, Abelman’s Gorge, many layers of rippled quartzite can is be seen in the vertical wall.

Next God broke earth’s foundation into various plates which shifted and tilted to various degrees releasing magma which filled the cracks and poured out over the sediment.  The spinning globe was once again ground smooth producing more sediment which was laid in blankets over the globe.

While breaking the foundation, God also tilted earth’s axis throwing one hemisphere into winter.  As surface water froze:

  • minerals precipitated blanketing the global ocean floor with deep layers of pure minerals.
  • Diatoms died, their glass houses fell like rain forming thick beds.
  • Icebergs formed, their frozen masses contained pure water for later use.
  • Minerals collected forming nodules which fell to the ocean floor, similar to hail forming and falling from a storm cloud.

Later, as the continents were rising and the flood waters were draining, winter came to the northern hemisphere. The rotting vegetation and carcass filled sediment was frozen in place creating the permafrost which still covers one-fifth of earth’s land surface.  By quick freezing the bacteria, rotting vegetation and carcasses; God was able to rid the earth of the flood’s trash heap of debris which had been pushed towards the poles by the earth circling currents.

Just imagine the Carnage. For 2000 years life had been multiplying on the earth and now every land living, air breathing animal, bird, and man had died in the Flood’s watery grave.  During the Global Flood Recovery most of it was buried, frozen, or eaten by the abundant sea life, what remained decayed into soil.

Before raising the huge plates which would be the continents and lowering the plates which would be the ocean basins, God first caused mountain ranges to push up through the thick blankets of sediment.  These would act as walls keeping the sediment in place as the water drained off the new land.  One of these ranges anchored the ark five months into the year long Flood.  If the ark had not been anchored first, it may have been swept into the newly formed sea.  As the mountains were pushed through the sediment, much of the sediment rushed down the rising slopes filling the valleys with a double portion of sediment and forming local layers of thick sediment across wide plains.  But, on some mountains, the sediment remained in place and was lifted miles high as the mountain top rose.  Magma continued to push its way through the cracks forming new layers of lava and volcanoes. Because the flood waters still blanketed the earth, the tremendous energy released by the tectonic activity was absorbed by the water.

Carcasses decayed into minerals such as calcium carbonate which became limestone and marble adding layers of stability to the sediment. Sand became sandstone.  Mud became slate. Vegetation buried within the layers became coal, methane and oil.  Today’s cave systems could have been formed by bubbles of methane gas rising up through the water saturated sediment and collecting in the thick, pasty, calcium carbonate before it hardened into limestone.

Once most or all of the mountain ranges were in place, God raised the land that would become the new continents.  Mountain ranges created the continental divides as they rose up through the water dividing the flow into the God ordained oceans.  God directed underwater tornadoes, giant whirlpools, or kolks as they are called in the Scablands of Washington state, to carve the paths which not only directed the water as it drained into the new oceans but also simultaneously formed earth’s major river systems.

As the water drained from the land, sea creatures were trapped. Their flesh rotted while their bones fossilized.  Fossil Butte National Monument is a fine example of this.  Near the top of the mountain is an eighteen inch thick layer of tan sediment which contains a vast array of complete fish fossils. The same layer of fossils can be traced in the surrounding mountains. As the water drained, the fish began swimming on their sides until all water was gone  and their bodies sank into the soft sediment. The decaying flesh released an oil film which caused the limestone to harden in thin layers which easily split apart revealing the fossils. Mudflows later eroded through the area creating valleys and leaving mountains.

The raising and lowering of the plates was orchestrated by God allowing Him to control the speed and direction of the draining water.  While the water rushed between peaks, it carved water breaks which would later be passes through the mountain ranges.  Mud and organic material made wide fertile valleys.  The slowly draining water carved benches in the hillsides marking each new the water level.

Waterlogged trees sank and were buried soon to become fossilized as silica replaced the carbon. Islands of floating carcasses were beached on the rising continents forming the scattered fossil beds found today. Continuing volcanoes buried the carcasses under layers of ash, the silica of which turned the bones into stone to be a memorial to His mighty power seen in the destruction of the Flood and the reconstruction of the earth.

When geology is viewed in terms of Global Flood Recovery, it is clear that as God set into motion the tectonics which caused the flood waters to drain into the sea, He simultaneously designed the world to be the stage upon which History would be played. As Acts 17:24 & 26 states, “God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;…And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;” The broken jagged pieces of plates which were raised miles high becoming mountain ranges, also form natural boundaries for nations and collect snow for summer’s water supply. The large plates which were push down becoming ocean basins, also separate continents and thus isolate nations. They also regulate earth’s cooling system with the circulating ocean currents. Rivers not only carry rain water back to the sea, they also provide boundaries for nations and supply a means of transportation. Even the death and decay was turned into coal, oil and soil. As God directed the recovery of the earth after the global destruction, He was also redesigning it into a fitting habitation for mankind.
