{"id":320,"date":"2012-03-29T14:32:12","date_gmt":"2012-03-29T18:32:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stonestruestory.org\/?page_id=320"},"modified":"2023-09-08T16:41:13","modified_gmt":"2023-09-08T20:41:13","slug":"mount-saint-helens","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/stonestruestory.org\/?page_id=320","title":{"rendered":"Mount Saint Helens"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>When Mount St. Helens erupted on May 18, 1980, millions of years were blasted off of earth&#8217;s geological timetable. &nbsp;Features which were once assumed to require millions of years to form, formed in a matter of hours and days. &nbsp;The 9 hour eruption, which transformed the landscape, offered science a true key to earth&#8217;s past.&nbsp;&nbsp;Thousands of trees were washed &nbsp;into Spirit Lake, creating a huge floating log mat, beneath which three feet of bark peat has collected.&nbsp; The largest landslide ever recorded filled the Toutle Valley with six hundred of feet of new dirt. The landslide material therefore contained huge blocks of glacier ice. The trees became a huge floating log mat. 40 years later, the mat continues to drift from shore to shore. Beneath the mat, bark has accumulated three feet deep. A small eruption melted the snow and the water overflowed the rim of the crater.
